The book “Mosques and masajid in Bulgaria” was presented

 

 

On 12th of July, 2017, Wednesday, in the central building o Grand Mufti’s Office of the Muslims in the Republic of Bulgaria – Sofia was presented the book of Prof. Lyubomir Mikov “Mosques and masajid in Bulgaria”. It is published by the publishing house of BAS “Prof. Marin Drinov” with the financial support of Grand Mufti’s Office. The event was attended by the Grand Mufti Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi, the Chairman of the Supreme Muslim Council Vedat Ahmed, the author of the book Prof. Dr. Lyubomir Mikov, the reviewers Prof. Orlin Sabev and the lecturer from the High Islamic Institute Aydan Yumerov, the deputy grand muftis, the Director of RS “Nyuvvab” in the city of Shumen Sherif Hyusnyu, the regional muftis, lecturers from HII, writers, intellectuals, students and other inquisitive readers.

The Grand Mufti Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi thanked the author and the organizers of the event and said: “This work is very important for us. It tells about us, what we are, who we are. And when we tell about ourselves this means that we have achieved a lot. Because people are afraid of what they do not know”.

In this work Prof. Mikov give an objective description of the Islamic temples in Bulgaria, the interior and the symbolism in them. In the study are commented artifacts from 88 mosques, among which there are also masajid, as well as several very specific architectural structures that were used as opened mosques because they were built without a roof and with one wall. The temples included in the study were built mainly until the beginning of XXth century, the majority of which are functioning, and there are also such that are in ruins or transformed for non-religious purposes. It turns out that 12 of the mosque are of a national importance, shared Prof. Mikov.
