Representatives of different religious denominations welcomed together the new Metropolitan of Vidin

Hundreds of people from Vidin and guests of the town officially welcomed the newly elected Metropolitan of Vidin Daniil. The inauguration ceremony took place on Saturday, February 10, 2018.

He was welcomed by hundreds of people at ‘Bdintsi” square in the town of Vidin. Among the official guests of the ceremony was also the Regional Mufti of Montana Nedzhati Ali. The representative of the Muslim Denomination and of the Muslim community in the country was together with representatives of the Vidin Diocese, other religious figures from Greek, Serbian and Romanian churches, also people from other religious denominations, as well as with officials, among whom the Mayor of the town Eng. Ognyan Tsenkov and other representatives of the local authorities.

The new Metropolitan of Vidin Daniil takes office after the death of his predecessor Dometian. Metropolitan Daniil was elected by the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church with 11 votes, and his opponent was the Bishop of Melnik Gerasim who got only 2 votes.

We would like to recall that respect and tolerance between the Christian and the Muslim community in the region of Vidin is not something new, but they are deeply grounded and have already become a tradition.

In 2015 the central management of the Muslim Denomination – the Grand Mufti Dr. Mustafa Hadzhi and all regional muftis were on an official visit to the Holy Metropolitan Church of Vidin, when it was steel headed by the already late Metropolitan of Vidin Dometian. After his death at the end of 2017 representatives of the Muslim Denomination honored the funeral service of the late Dometian and sent him during his last earthly path.

Vidin has always been an example of tolerance and good neighborliness between the Muslim and the Christian communities. We do believe that this spirit of peace, love and understanding between the representatives of the two religious denominations will continue to develop in their relations also during the management of the Vidin Diocese by the new Metropolitan of Vidin Daniil.
