“Tombul” mosque in Shumen is among the nominated sites for the architectural WhATA AWARDS

At the end of 2019 the platform for architectural criticism and journalism WhATA announced the nominations for this year’s WhATA AWARDS – the annual awards for the successes and the failures of the Bulgarian architecture, which have a history of already 10 years.

One of all eight categories of the awards is “Normality of the year” – presenting the best restorations and reconstructions in 2019. According to the organizers of the contest “Three projects from 2019 deserve to be highlighted in these nominations” and they are Stoyan Staynov House in Kazanlak (restored by Aleksandar Staynov), “Tombul” mosque in Shumen (restores by Evorest 2002 Ltd) and 43 Primary School “Hristo Smirnenski” in Sofia the restoration of which is done by Dimcho Tilev from “Tilev Architects”. The three architectural and restored sites compete not separately but together – in a general nomination “Good restorations and reconstructions”.

In the same category “Normality of the year” are nominated 6 other candidates. They are the Architectural Workshops for Children, Series of Souvenirs Takeaway Plovdiv/Plovdiv for home, The Red Flat, IKEA in BDZ, Ivan Vazov OpenandDestructive Creationin Fakulteta.

The nominations and the awards of the jury in the architectural contest are determined by the organizer WhATA. The audience awards are selected through online voting in which everyone can participate HERE. The deadline for online voting is January 31, 2020. The winners will be officially announced on February 17 this year.
