The Supreme Muslim Council (SMC), which is the central collective managing body of the Muslim Denomination, held its first meeting in the situation of the state of emergency. The Council met on April 13 (Monday), 2020 in the afternoon in the virtual space, taking advantage of the benefits of the technological development. The first of its kind online meeting of the collective body of the Muslim Denomination addressed current issues most of which were related to the religious and administrative life of the Muslims.

Following the proposal of Grand Mufti’s Office, taking into consideration also the recommendation of the Fatwa Committee at the Supreme Muslim Council, during the meeting were discussed and adopted Internal working procedures for performing funeral activities during an epidemic. This Act, which is prepared on the basis of the state legal acts related to the cemeteries and ensuring healthy and safe working conditions, regulates the funeral activities of the Muslim community in times of crisis, when the test is related to the protection of the life and the health of the people. With the adoption of the Rules the Supreme Muslim Council emphasized the importance of life and dignity, that is why the rules, on the one hand, guarantee the preservation of the life and the health of the imams and the members of the community, who participate in funerals, and on the other hand – the dignity of the deceased people, because it is foreseen an optimal observation of the religious funeral rites.

Along with this the Council addressed different cases, related to the management of the waqf property. This included also facilitating the work of the tenants, regardless of their religion and ethnicity, who cannot implement their planned activities due to the declared state of emergency in the country.

 

During the one-hour meeting of the Supreme Muslim Council was also extended the time for the work of the temporary committee which will elaborate action plan in the larger cities, which requires a special approach. The members of the Council ended the meeting with best wishes for health and happiness, as well as with a reminder for the responsibility in the moments of a test, in which the world is. There was also an indication for the organization of the next meeting at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, which begins on April 24 this year.
